"It's quite effective and very easy and fast to enter food or symptoms. I have tried similar apps and while generally well made they tend to be cumbersome to use. Do you plan to make a version for Android?
No.

I've used the app for a week and it doesn't seem to work. How long do I have to use it?
Because the results are based on data the more data you can feed it, the better. Give it some time, use it regularly and you should see results. Even then, it's entirely possible that you do not have a food allergy or sensitivity and/or that the app doesn't see anything that it thinks is statistically significant.

How does the app know that a symptom is connected to a particular food?
It doesn't. The app simply tallies all symptoms experienced after each food that was eaten, so it is possible that it will connect the same symptom to multiple foods. However, with time and a good amount of data, certain distinct trends should emerge if there are any connections to be found.

My dairy symptoms have subsided. Why hasn't the grade improved?
The app only considers (counts) the times when a symptom occurs, so even though you may have eaten the food a hundred more times and been free of symptoms, the analysis is still only counting the times that a symptom occurred. If you want to reset tracking for a food you can always delete and re-add the food (or create a duplicate) and/or you can customize the dates that the analysis considers.

Why can't I enter food amounts or severity of a symptom, e.g. Stomach ache 1 to 5?
Because then the analysis moves from science to art. What does a "Level 3 Stomach ache" really mean? Is there a scientific consensus on what that means? No. Will two different people agree on what a "Level 3 Stomach ache" is? No. The app works on a strictly binary statistic: either a food caused a problem or it didn't. Period. It counts those occurrences and then looks for interesting peaks in the resulting graph.

 

Can I record medicines?
If you want to see if a medicine makes a difference, track foods without the medicine, start the medicine, then do an analysis with custom dates for the time after you started taking the medicine and see if there is any difference in the scoring.

How do I record a chronic symptom?
Since the app is looking at cause and effect, when possible you should record the onset of a particular symptom and not make repeated entries if the symptom is ongoing. If a symptom persists at all times then it will be difficult to determine a cause.

In the analysis why are symptom counts grouped into two-hour intervals?
This is to accommodate a degree of variability in digestion rates as well as to compensate for variations in when symptoms are recorded. There is a setting to switch it to one-hour intervals for finer analysis if you like.

What do the numbers on the graph mean?
The numbers on the left-hand side (vertical) are how many times the symptom was counted as occuring after each occurrence of the food. The numbers across the bottom (horizontal) are the time intervals after the food was eaten. For example, for a default six-hour analysis, the numbers across the bottom would be 2, 4, and 6, representing the intervals 0-2 hours, 2-4 hours, and 4-6 hours.

Will you make a version for the iPad?
We are hoping to release a universal app in late 2013 or early 2014.
